Give us a review of the difference between the 2 after you have run it some.

I can't give you a review as I haven't received the MK yet. The Motorguide Xi5 I had was an excellent unit and gave great service for the 2 1/2 years I owned it. It was a 12 volt, 55 lb thrust, 45 inch shaft. My main reason for changing is that I want more thrust. I could get more thrust by purchasing another Motorguide. However, after doing some research I determined the MK has a few more features that I think I will be useful for the way I fish. Those features are:

    1) a hand held remote with a digital readout
    2) a "rabbit" function on the remote (TM speeds up when this function is activated)
    3) a light on the TM base that indicates if the TM is in the directional/cruise mode
    4) a hard wired foot control rather than a wireless foot control.

If I were a dock shooter, pusher or brush pile fisherman I would not have made the change. Both companies have good products but for long lining I think the aforementioned features will be a benefit. I know others who have the MK Terrova and they give it great reviews.

I hope this helps even though I have not compared the two on the water.

Minn Kotas are great trolling motors.

I am on my 3rd Powerdrive V2, the 1st went with my old boat when I sold it, my 2nd was busted in a boating accident, my 3rd (with I-pilot) is a great motor.

I love the I-Pilot system, btw, best upgrade I have done for long line trolling

Buying an i-Pilot was the best upgrade I ever made. It makes fishing so much easier, especially when I am fishing with my wife and I have to help her all the time. I can control the boat from anywhere while I am netting her fish or breaking off her hang ups. It has so many features that are so useful besides the wireless remote control. I love mine.

I love my motor guide xi5 with pinpoint gps. I have never used my wireless foot pedal. I love the heading lock and cruise long lining. The reason I went with motor guide was the spot lock was suppose to be better than minn Kota old one. I fish brushpiles also. The spot lock on the new minn Kota is suppose to be good with to gps.

I have a New 24 volt Terrova 80 # thrust I-pilot and I absolutely love it. It has the spring assist to help lift it.

Jim and I are going to Lake Oconee tomorrow to try out the new trolling motor. We are also going to change our trolling technique and push minnows using a #2 aberdeen hook. Begrudgingly, we are entering the summer pattern and will get back to the combo trolling soon. I hope!
