    Default Talquin next week

Just wondering if anyone has been within the last week or so and had any luck?
We are heading down next Wednesday and I was wondering how the water temp was? I'm afraid we may of planned our trip too early. Are the big females in transition between deep channels going to the mouths of the creeks or are they farther up in the flats near the pads. Seems like last year we went later in February and they had already hit the pads if I remember right? Any guidance would be very appreciated being that we only get to go once a year.

    Thanks
    RO

Should know more later this week. The cooler water and fresh water will keep them close to the channel until the water warms.......but fish are being caught.

Fish are very scattered and have not made it into most creeks very well. They have been hit or miss around some of the mouths but mostly still concentrated in or near the river channel. Only a few males been found near pads here and there. It is early but with decent weather and if water clears up it will really turn on. You can still get a nice limit if you work. The fish are stacked from Coes up into the river but the water has been trashy. I would start trolling around the channel in front of Goat Island and troll into the mouth of Harvey creek until you find a hot depth. They will move shallower as the day warms. Acid Rain, Popsicle, and bubble gum in lake. In muddier water near river pumpkinseed/chartruese and tenn. shad/chartruese. If water is trashy or heavily colored add weight and fish as large minnow you can find. PM me when you get there I may be caught up and go sometime next week. As it looks like sometime from Tuesday to Thursday I expect the bite to turn on. Leave some for seed and keep us informed, good luck! We love pics with big fish and smiling faces.

Thanks for the great advice crappielimits. That is why I love this website and the crappie fishing community because everyone is always helping each other out. This is our second year coming down there and we are jacked up!!! I've been a slab-a-holic for about 4-5yrs now and havent bass fished since!!! I try to learn something new every trip so that many years from now I might be able to give back some good advice to someone new getting into this addictive sport

Yes we did schedule our trip the week of Valentines Day!!! So that means we will all be working on our Honey-Do lists the rest of February..LOL So we have no choice but to bring home a bunch of slabs or we will never hear the end of it from the wives!!! By the way stankyleg, don't be mad cause your partner bailed on you and now your wife wont let you go!!! Don't worry, we will all drink an extra beverage of choice each nite at dinner in memory of our fallen wolf pack brother.....LOL

Yep. Cold weather has held them off this year. I guess my camper is still there?
