I finally got the chance to go yesterday morning. Put in at Cedar creek boat ramp and started fishing channel ledges and nothing. Water in mainb lake is muddy. I decided to try a little into Cedar creek and found the surface temp to be 7 degrees higher. Was 49 degrees on main lake and 56 degrees where I fished. Was able to catch 4 big slabs with the largest being 13 1/2 inches. Only one was female and other 3 were males. Cought all 4 in 6 feet of water.

Ragfly, were you trolling or shooting docks in Cedar Creek? I floated down CC for a short time yesterday to see if a few might be around the trees already but didn't catch anything. Hope it will clear up soon.

I was shooting docks and I only shot two different docks. Cought 2 under each one and all four of them were big slabs. In my opinion I think the ones I cought were "scouting out" places and before too long you will be able to catch several more. Gonna be a great year for big slabs I think.

I might try to head up there and try fishing in that 6 to 10 ft range at cedar on sat. Were you fishing in the deeper channel ledges or did you try east of the old tram line near the docks you shoot? I'll probably troll for a little bit then hit some docks myself. Glad to hear the auction went well also!

Hey there Triton my friend. I was fishing east of the tram road shooting docks. The ones I cought were close to the bottom. Better watch the weather before you head this way. Got a very bad weather system headed this way tonight. 90% chance of rain and wind. I think Cedar would be the best bet.

I went yesterday, 3/08/2014. Water was still muddy in the main lake. I've not fished Blackshear much but want to try to learn it as it's much closer to me than going all the way over to Lake Eufala or Lake Seminole.

I don't know much about Crappie fishing at this point in time. I am decent (not great) at Bass fishing. What I'm really wanting to try to learn at the current time is where the shellcracker and bream bed. Actually, I guess it's getting close to crappie spawning time and I'd sure like to learn where/how to get in on that action.

When I lived in South Carolina I had some friends that had great success catching crappie when they were spawning. They'd use a cane pole with about two foot of line with a jig tied to it. They'd fish in shallow water where there were weeds or other stuff. I was told they don't "bed" like bream but attach their eggs to weeds/sticks/etc. Is that correct?

I put in at the state park and went towards the upper part of the lake, bass fishing and looking for likely bedding areas.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

no i was told that years ago and i asked a fish biologist about that he said they made a nest like bream and all other sun fish . they were bigger and not as close as the bream and other sun fish .
retired and now i will always fish
