Lake Varner is an excellent lake in the Covington area. Trolling motor only, but pretty good bank access.

i fish out that way coming from Atlanta, going 20 East to Charlie Elliot. I've found sound nice ponds in conyers off Turner Hill Rd, yellow River in porterdale, and black shoals. Any other spots you could point me in? I try and go crappie fishing almost everyday.

    thanks for your help,

Charlie elliot lake margery beside boat ramp, you can tear them up right now. Also dairy pond where drain pipe comes out of dam good spot right now. All the rivers alcovy, yellow, south have fish stacked up at the furthest north point they can go due to shoals. This time of year i caught just as many fish without a boat as i do now with one....well not quiet but almost as many!

Bad thing about these river access spots im speaking of is all the locals been catching these crappie forever every spring. So it tends to get crowed. Heres the secret " chest waders" sometimes id pull up and there be 15 trucks parked at a spot that only has 3 or 4 spots to fish due to trees bushs whatever...with waders being very carefull! You can wade out about knee deep and be away from everybody, plus you can fish the holes that the folks on the bank cant reach! I have numerous times stood on a rock in middle of yellow river catching slab after slab in the eddy water behind the rock while the guys on bank stare in disbelief! And try with all there might to cast to that pool of water!
