Congrads on the new boat Score, I think I would go with bigger one.
I just bought a boat that I'm rigging. I want your opinions on the trolling motor. It's a 20' fish and ski with a 200hp merc on the back. It's a fairly heavy boat. Do you think the 80lb would be ok for a long day of longlining or should I spend the extra on a 101? I also haven't decided between autopilot or Ipilot. I've had the autopilot and was pleased. Opinions?
To heck with work, lets go fishing.

I have a Motorguide 82# 24V digital touring edition on a 19 ft Triton fish & ski (heavy also) and it does OK for bass or crappie fishing all day.....I don't longline.....I would think the batteries would be the weak link in the set up....not the TM.....

I had a 80lb on a ta 196 and it did well. It could handle 1.6mph easily with that boat but that one is very light on the front for the length. Also, the 101 is a 36 volt and my logic is that 3 batteries would drain slower than 2.

PM Ree'sguide he has a big fish and ski think he has 101 but has run the 80. He could give you some good info.

Trollimg motor manufacturers have recommendations based on different factors such as length and type of hull. Look at Min Kota's web site. Weight is not listed. But I called them once and they give me a # thrust to weight ratio.
if it were me I would get the Ipilot...I have one and love mine...no more foot control just hand held remote. I troll with mine. congrats on the new boat.
If you have the space for 3 bats I would go 101 ipilot.
My 80lb will push my 186 Bay Reef at 3.0 mph and its pretty heavy.........
So far no issues with battery life......
The 101 is gonna add another 60lbs in battery weight for the third battery.........
With the 200 that shouldn't be a problem if you have room........
Definitely get the Ipilot.......The old AP is not even in the same league.......

Someone once asked me: "Aren't you concerned with all the gaps in your work history due to fishing?"
My response: "I am more concerned about the gaps in my fishing history due to work!"
I missed that you longlined when you PMed me, 101 hands down if you have the space for the battery. I also run cart batts so they are a bit heavier but I can pull cranks for 3 days straight without a charge when need be. Ipilot all the way too, best crappie fishing tool ever invented in my opinion.
Good luck!!
