I'm a humminbird fan myself.....Extremely easy to operate....get the largest screen you can afford and when you split them you'll love it!

Purchased lowrance m52 pro from ebay last month($119.oo)gps/fishfinder w/out maps.if you are just looking for speed and fishfinder i would suggest looking into this one.this particular unit has been discontinued and replaced by the x4,but man what a bargain.i'm loving mine.

Thanks for the info but now I have an addition question. What is more important a color screen or large monitor. On my budget I can afford a 5" black/ white or 3.5 " color. Both units accept map cards.

Hmm...not really sure a 3.5" screen is big enough to use as splitscreen.

On a budget my recomendation is the 700 Series Humminbird. Large screen , low price, pretty accurate.
