Default Quick Deep Cycle Battery Question

Hello all had a quick question about my deep cycle and posted it in the state forum to get respones from people i trust. Before i left for Greece i tried to charge up my deep cycle battery i use for night light. It was 3/4 i would guess by what i used and heard you wanted to store it with a full charge. I just have a basic walmart battery charger i put it on for about 12 hours on the lowest charge setting came back still wasnt topped off. So i bumped it to a higher setting and let it go for a bout 7 hrs came back still wasnt done. I decided at that point i was done and had to get packed. Any ideas on why it wouldnt top off the charge? Are there special chargers i am supposed to have for my Deep cycle batterys? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Does the battery have enough water in it? How old is the battery?

Sounds like a battery might be going bad. Make sure there's plenty of water in the battery and try another charger. If all fails, have the battery checked under a load.

If you haven't been charging the battery as soon as you get home, then it may have created a memory. If it holds a load, it may just need to be cycled (used and recharged) a time or two to restore the full charge. It could have irreparable damage though if it's been left at a low charge for very long.

Always recharge your batteries as soon as you can. Most people leave them with a low charge, and try to charge them just before their next fishin trip. That's the worst thing you can do to a DC battery. I charge mine ASAP!! I plug mine in before I get my fish out of the boat!!! They last 5-7 yrs. that way, some longer.

The last time I bought batteries I bought two. They both wouldn't take but 3/4 charge when I first charged them. I went ahead and used them and they straightened up and got to where they would take a full charge. They are both three years old and still going strong. Do what the other guys said about charging as soon as you get home and keep the water full.

I used to charge may batteries as soon as I got in from the lake, at least 12 hrs and the left them on trickle charge. Make sure that they don't set in freezing temps for long periods of time.
