    Default Allatoona 2/3/06

I had the day off from work so I decided to head down to the lake and wet a line. I got on the water about 8:30 and it was foggy. I put in at little river, the water was shallow but I manage to get in and out ok. I didn't have any luck on my buckets I put out, so I ran around to my bamboo. I was surprised that it is still under the water. Just under, but it is under. I didn't have any luck fishing around it. So I spent the rest of the day trolling/ pushing jigs. They really like the black/blue, black/char., black/pink early in the day. Later in the day I caugth fish on jigs made with squirel hair and green with the fire tail.
The water temp was 48.5 when I arrived and ~54 when I left.
Most of my fish where caught 8' deep in 20-25' of water.

I caught more fish when I sped the trolling motor up from 1 to 2.
I caught around 35 fish and I had 14 keepers. Most of the throw backs were 8.5" long. No real small fish and no real big fish. The weather and the fish made it a Crappie day at the lake and it beat the He** out of going to work!

jfraley, when you say 8' deep in 20'-25' of water I'm assuming you as you were trolling that these were suspended fish, correct. Don't know about where you were fishing but I mainly fish a 3500 acre Corp lake and this time of year all my fish come on the bottom or just above. What made you fish that far up in the water column? Is there a lot of current in that lake? Give me some tips on how to look/catch those positioned fish.

Yes, I was marking fish between 10-15 feet down, but I couldn't get those fish to bite much. I raised the jigs to 8 feet and was catching them pretty steadly. I imagine that the fish were coming up to bite. I know that crappie feed looking up, but I don't think the water was clear enough for them to see a jig 4 feet above them. Then again it the water could have been different down at 10 feet.
