    Default Allatoona Lake Slabfest

The Lake Allatoona Slabfest scheduled for November 14th, 2009 is just around the corner and plans are progressing nicely. We would like to get a list started of who will be attending and what you will be bringing. If you plan on camping at McKinney Campground you need to go ahead and make your reservations. The phone number for reservations at the campground is: 877-444-6777. We are trying to stay close together and sites #121 through #133 are close to the bath house and boat ramp. The campground is a straight shot across the lake to the Navy Recreation Site where the Friday night get together and Saturday’s weigh in and fish fry will take place.

Retired Military can rent cabins or campsites at the Navy and Army Lake Sites. For reservations call Navy: 770-974-6309 and the Army: 770-974-3413. They are in the same area and across from McKinney Campground.

We are inviting any active duty Military personnel to join us at the Slabfest. Any of them with a boat are invited and those without a ride are also invited. So we need to know if anyone is willing to take a military person in your boat. We will wave the 2 person, 4 rod rule if the 3rd person in your boat is active duty military.

We decided that the Friday night cook out of Hamburgers and Hot Dogs will be a lot easier if held at the Navy Lake Site pavilion. There we have a big kitchen with all the appliances that we can use Friday night and Saturday. It is enclosed so if the weather is bad it will seat everyone in attendance. It is going to be a hassle at the Corp of Engineer campground. I checked and too many restrictions for visitors.

We will have the rules/regulations for the Slabfest printed on a handout and each team will be given a copy Friday night. They will also be posted here if you cannot make the Friday get together.

Start time will be Saturday morning at 7:00am and will end 1:00pm. Boats can be launched anywhere on the lake, no appointed starting point.

The Rec Site manager and his staff, non participants in the event, will conduct the weigh-in.

The weigh-in will be at Dock #1 at the Navy Lake Site. Weigh-in will start at 1:00pm and the scale will close at 2:00pm. The fish fry will start following the weigh in.

Some of the items you can look for more information on is:

    1. Motels in the area
    2. Minnows
    3. Directions to the Navy Lake Site.
    4. Team sign up location and or phone numbers
    5. Let’s remember that this is a fun, friendly, family get together.
    6. I am working on getting the “Allatoona Crappie King” to stop by on Friday night and giving us some insight on HOT spots on the lake. He called me Saturday and wants to get with us.

Remember that there is a complete commercial kitchen for our use Friday and Saturday. If you would like to cook/bake whatever just bring the ingredients and your own pots and pans. There are some there but bring your own to be sure. What about those famous grits I have been hearing so much about.

    Friday night get together food!

    2. rwindis - a dozen hot dogs and hamburgers + charcoal
    3. gajud - hot dog and hamburgers

    Hey i got the trophies.
I make a cole slaw that goes pretty good with hot dog or a hamburger if it won't make Die-Hard mad. Kim we can have a cole slaw challenge.

Thanks to all of you we get to visit a new lake. I hope everyone will support this new venue. I believe these guys will put on one of the best events yet. Gonna have plenty of water. Let us just hope it gets cold enough to keep most of the lake lice away.:D
