    Default Astor 3/5 - 3/19

I got back last Monday from a 2 week fishing trip. I stayed at Anglers riverside resort in Astor (My favorite place). Mostly fished Dexter and Woodruff long line trolling. Biggest fish was 2.3 and a 1.15. All the rest in the 1 pound range. I caught a total of 103 fish over 12". Most went back into the water. I would have posted earlier but between the nice weather, the fishing, beer and woman I didn't have much time to mess the computer. The best jig by far was a old Hal fly, Orange head, green body with orange tail. The more they got tore up the better the fish liked them. The place is always a full blown jungle adventure for me.

Glad you got on them! We were down there back in late Feb and had a really bad trip, fish wise!

I can't really say I got on them. I had to hunt them down every day. Never hit any schools just a few here and there. But I like trying to figure them out that is part ot the adventure.

Yep, always seems like you have to hunt for them down here. And I also agree on orange, I find that's my best color here as well. Silver too. I feel it's a Black Crappie only thing down here, they don't school up as much as White Crappie do (less open deep water). And the orange color is because of all the grass shrimp they eat. If I'm not mistaken, large grass shrimp have an orange hue to them.

    IMHO, "your mileage may vary"

I love to fish the Astor area. Glad you got your string pulled and landed a Big-Un. My wife calls monster crappie Roy's. I hope to get up there soon and try out some orange headed baits. Tight Lines.
