    Default Fisheating Creek

I was thinking about maybe going there later this week and spending a night or two. Has anyone been there recently, or know what the fishing's like right now with this drought we're having? I'd like to fish for some crappie and other bream, but especially crappie since there are none down here in Broward. If anyone knows if there's some decent, or even semi-decent, fishing around there I'd appreciate it. I'm not looking to catch a whole mess of fish really, just want to mainly get away and relax for a little bit, and hopefully catch just enough to keep me fed.

I heard that the creek was low just like all the rest of the creeks, canals, ponds, and lakes. Be careful if motoring on low waters. Underwater stumps and structure now exposed with the low water can wrench an outboard and cause accidents. Don't know about Specks, but you could probably get some bream on that creek.

Bream will work for me too. I don't have a boat of my own, but I'm planning on doing some fishing from the bank and maybe renting a canoe, depending on how much is accessible by foot.

Fisheating Creek is just west of Lake Okeechobee in Palmdale and feeds into the lake.

used to fish it all the time. My favorite fishin hole. There is a good crappie hole on the downstream side of the hwy 27 bridge. After you cross under the bridge headin downstream look ahead to your right just where the lake ends and the creek starts back through the woods. There is usually a clump of grass hung up on some logs next to the cypress. There is a deep hole unser the grass there and crappie usually are in it. Further downstream there is a ruin of an old bridge. The pilings from the bridge are still there and can be seen when the water is low. If the pilings are not exposed you can find it by spotting the grade from the old road on the right bank and lining it up with the grade on the left bank. Fish the right bank side of this. Also anywhere the channel swings against the bank and has a blowdown on it fish there too. I always fished minnows for the crappie. Further down the creek a ways is rock lake this is a good shellcracker spot. All of these spots will produce crappie on most days and you can expect some nice cats too. Crickets will catch bream anywhere up and down the creek.

    Man I miss that place.

    Minnowsoaker:

Did you rent a canoe at the campground? I know there
are some very shallow places around there. Bass are
also a choice...and I am glad to hear that there
are crappie in the creek, too. So far...I have only fished
from the bank around the campground..and I think there
is a minimum charge of $5 or so to get in.

    tnvol,

A canoe works good. I used to run the creek in this here.

5 bucks sounds about right. I think thats what they charged to luanch a boat.
They will rent you a canoe and tote you upstream to burnt bridge. Lots of good bass fishin on the way down stream back to Palmdale.

I like the creek at about 2' to 3' best. The last time I checked the water level was way closer to 0'. I think they been gettin some rain though.

Thanks for the tips, minnowsoaker. I spent an afternoon/evening there the other day fishing from the bank where ever I could on the campground but didn't have any luck. I was a bit surprised. Might have been the weather, I have no idea, but I'm going to go back again and maybe rent a canoe.

    erichkopp,

doesn't surprise me you didn't do well at the campground. I never did well there either except a few cats.
Get a canoe and get on downstream. you'll more than likely have to drag the canoe from time to time but thats when it can be real good. Hit every hole you come to with crickets and minnows. keep an eye out for the hornets.
