    Default Lake manatee report

Went out Sunday trying to beat the rain. Got to the bait shop early and wouldn't you know they were out of minnows. Was here now... had jig crappie nibbles and night crawlers. Didn't have high hopes. Went to the area we caught them in last time and wasn't marking anything on the finder so we tried anchoring for a while with no luck and drifting really wasn't an option because of the wind. We finally headed up in the river area to hide from the wind mostly. We tried a area on a drop off for a bit then moved and found a spot were it was 10 foot right by the bank and I could see a little twig sticking up. Threw up there with a bobber and white maribou jig. My bobber almost instantly sank slowly away started cranking and got a nice one. next cast same thing. Took the bobber off tossed up there reel about 3 turns fish on. Gave my rod to Rhonda bam she had one. Ended up with 7 nice ones then a cloud rolled in that looked rainy and that was it they were done. We ended up loosing I think 7 jigs and caught 7 fish in 15 min. The 4 lb test was no match for the brush.

Glad that you stuck with it and did find some. When I get around the grabby stuff I use a #6 sickle hook jighead, usually a 1/32 and because of the smaller gap I don't get hung up as much as with bigger hooks. I don't loose many with the sickle hooks.

Many an old timer will tell ya, if you're not losing a jig now and then, you're not fishing in the right place. Sounds like you had a pretty good day considering the weather and all. Thanks for sharing.
What time is it? IT'S CRAPPIE TIME!
