Thread: caught a few today

well..after getting all my engine issues corrected, I'be been to a place called red beach lake close to sebring..about a dozen times. I got out by 8 am today and just drift fished with some minnows. Got four fish and this time kept them. The largest was about 12 inches and two of them had eggs in them. Might be starting to spawn. Got them in 16 ft water at 70 degrees temp and about 10 ft down. Used a double hook rig..they seem to react well to those at this lake. I missed a few as well but am going back in the morning with daughter at 7. She's 26 and loves to fish. We haven't gone together in probably a year or more. She didn't really trust my motor before and didn't want to have to row in!! I'm taking the trolling motor just to make her feel better this time!

went out again this morning. We got a late start because during the night someone had stolen my three rods that were in the boat!!,So..daughter had bought about twenty rod/reel combos at a yard sale a while back and grabbed three of those that worked and rigged 'em up. All worked really good actually. The ones that were stolen were from the same set of rods so no big loss monetarily. The motor was on the boat and a battery charger..but didn't touch them! Guess they just wanted to go fishin! Anyway..we got out on the lake and it was a a slow day for bites. We got to talk though and joked around some. It was just nice being out with her. We trolled a little bit after drifting for a while and while trolling got two fish about a minute apart. Smaller fish but keepable. She said hers must have just been suicidal. No fight at all!! Like it just gave up..When we were leaving I let her back the trailer up to the ramp. It was her first time doing that. She had to correct a few times but eventually made it down the ramp to the water. There was a time several years ago when I would have gotten a little snappy with her maybe or impatient about it amd we would have wound up huffy at each other. I think we've both mellowed a little! She also got a line caught in the trolling motor but I didn't get upset at that either..I can fix that later not worth ruining a nice day with her! We had a great day actually. Ii only lasted two hours but two good hours. We're maybe going again in the morning..Rods are in the house tonight!!
