    Default Crappie fishing in/around Ocala?

Besides Lochloosa what other lakes are producing good quantities of Crappies? Like any of the forest lakes? Panasoffkee?

Inverness - Lake Henderson big & little - Spivey (all three run together)
Floral City - Lake Floral - again about 3 lakes joined together
Lake Newman - closer to Gainesville, North West of Lochloosa about 15 mi
Lake Tarpon - Tarpon Springs, Fl - off highway 19

East of Ocala - Big & Little Harris lakes off Hwy 44 and/or Hwy 27
Lake Dora - with includes Dora - Beau-Clair & Carlton
    Lake Yale off 44
    Lake Griffin off 44
Lake Dorr - off hwy 19 north of Leesburg

My friend you are in the heartland of Crappie fishing.

Lake George, Dexter and Woodruff from Astor at 40. Sante Fe should be producing. Not sure about the smaller forest lakes but been eyeing Woildcat for some time and going to venture there one of these days. Probably not much more info than you already knew but thats all I got.

Forgot about Hwy 40 bridge - with access to George - Woodruff - Dexter as well
    as the river.
Could also go to Cleremont off hwy 50 - fish Johns Lake

Many many excellant fisheries between 50 -65 miles of Ocala - could have a blast
if retired..............fish your brains out.............. or go fish a few tournsments with
Florida Crappie Club - their schedule covers several lakes in Florida ....
That will really get your feet wet for Crappie Fishing.
Or check out their forum on Florida web - read results of various lakes - this will
also give good insight about lakes around Florida

Mike this place has been on my mind for a few years, every time I drive past I always think 1 day I will make it. I have

even stopped a few times & looked around, it usually seems fairly quiet unless it's summer then I have seen people swimming

& hanging out. I you ever wanna give it a try I am interested to scout some new waters myself, I'm sure there's some bass in it
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

I fished it once probably 15 years ago or so. There is a little channel on it leading to a smaller little lake on the east side of it also. I honestly don't remember if I caught any fish on it or not it's been so long. But it's not heavily fished so I would imagine it's gotta be decent.

It's been on my radar for a long time too. Once I get the throw around boat legal I'll greet the sun there some morning. Probably have the fly rod with me too. Those grass lakes scattered through the forest can be sleepers, but might not hold many crappie. I lived west of Deland for a few years and fished anything that held water in the dry periods and had a real good time in many of them. Caught some bass on a tiny popper bug up to about 5lbs, had no scale then. The quiet and remoteness makes it a very different experience.

Another lake I use to fish a lot in the forest was Lake Jumper. At the time it was only accessible thru a person's property located off Hwy 314A but I heard those people passed on and the lake was no longer accessible for awhile but I believe it's operated by the state now so it may be accessible now. I always caught bass on that lake, just not sure if it's good for crappier. Might have to look into it again one day.

Fished a few forest lakes in the 50's, 60's with brothers and father. Long Pond was one we camped at. Caught my biggest Bass out of Long Pond. Most of those lakes and ponds have Starhead minnows that we caught with a dip net. Bass just love them. we caught Bass on cane poles and catfish on trot lines. Many memories in those old haunts.
Don't remember about specks much. I think Lake Katherine had some then and should now. Long Pond has dried and choked with hydrilla.
