Roadrunner pro with willow blade and stroll r, 2" umbrella tube with inside tube jighead pumped full of nibbles, and a jighead with cajun critter. All 1/16th oz majority with occasion lighter or heavier.
I'm sure this has been on here before but I am newbie. I mentioned previously I'm headed to Lake George 1st weekend of March to meet my Dad and brother for a little spec and bass fishing. As a kid we always used Missouri Minnows. (Not sure they were from Missouri but that is what I always heard em called.)
My question - I never really used jigs. If you guys had to have two or three baits what would your favorite be? Size and color?
Thanks for the advice.

Based on a recent report, my buddy has been catching them like crazy on the St johns near Geneva, FL using pink 1.5" twistertails while fishing for shad. He also uses chartruese alot, but the specks he caught seem to prefer the pink. Jighead weight depends on conditions and how fast your going, but like huntinslabs said a good medium is 1/16th oz.

Southren pro hot grub, 2", 1/16 LIGHTWIRE jig head. Add weight to run deeper. As for color, try different ones and let the fish tell you what they want.

Go-to bait: Road Runner pro-series jighead (gold willow leaf blade), 1/16th oz., chartruese or white - always tipped with a minnow, usually 12" beneath a 1/2 oz. sinker held by a splitshot...sometimes I add the fish's favorite color jig. Preferred speed varies, this year they're biting good at 1.0 to 1.2, but early in the season they usually like 1.7-1.9 mph and larger jig tails up to 3" cause they're still eating fall shad.
Everyone who attends the Shad Rally at The Jolly Gator Fish Camp come see me for FREE Roadrunner lures. (Look in Coastal Angler Magazine Orlando for info)
TTI Blakemore (Roadrunner, Reel Magic) is one of our sponsors this year
And...Ron's Zip Jigs fished same as above. Ron has stage 4 cancer and his wife Ann says the company will be sold or close. Get the lures while u can.
Now, that's just for tight lining...for longlining I like a simple old 1/16th oz white maribou jig (minnow tipped of course). When they get grey colored from dragging in the mud, I think they work even better...
Shad bait of choice: Nungesser Shad rig, pre-tied with a red dart and gold spoon. Trolling against the current is luckier for me, dunno why.
