Default long line trolling lesson #3

Have the boat, poles and all set up for long line trolling as shown in Alabama forum. Wanted to get an early start but grandkids didn't put throwable back in boat so early will have to wait untill in the morning. Went to 19.6' where the fish show but only caught 3 about 6" each, so have replaced setups and jigs and hope to try again EARLY in the morning. Catch a bunch.--shu

Using 1/16 oz heads southern pro curly tails in black/chart. june bug/chart size=2", today's only fish came on a 1/32 oz(unpainted) white body green tailed tube jig but let it go further back, am printing fish from 10' to 17' in 20' of water. Thinking of going back to spider rigging 1/2 oz Capps and Coleman rigs and using only minnows. --shu

Are You Single Or Double Jigging? I Would Try Double Jigs. Double 1/16 Tied About Four Feet Apart. Troll About Six To Eight Tenths Of A Miler Per Hour. No Faster Than 1 Mph. Good Luck.

Thanks guys for your responses, gets me to thinking and that's getting harder to do. Have been using single jigs and most of the time the gps says .84 mph, will go to 2 jigs or 1 jig and a minnow above it. catch a bunch.--shu

If you're marking fish at 10-17' you should try a 1/8 oz. jig to get you to the proper depth. I like a 1/8 and 1/32 double rig with the 1/32 trailing the 1/8. This rig should get you down to about 11 or 12' deep. Your 1/16 was only getting you down about 6'.

Try lighter brighter colors if it's a bright sunny day, the yellow and white Acid Rain is getting chewed up real good on my jigs! If it's cloudy go with yellow and green like lemon/lime or green hornet.

I haven't been able to buy a bite on any dark colors in over a month here in 'Bama. Those Crappie were trying to tell you what they want when they bit your white tube

I have to disagree with this a little, a lot of my bites come from speeding up and/or slowing down. 1.2 mph is max speed for me and they hit when I slow down to .8 and the jigs fall, then speed back up and they'll hit again as the jigs start to rise. Some days a more constant speed is better, but in the warmer water they can be triggered by a little more erratic speed.

.. but this just might be me and my fish.

Am ready to go in the morning, rigged eight rods with solid white or solid chart. Arkie 1/8 oz 2" jigs in front and a mixture of 1/16 oz jigs trailing, used loop knots on front jigs. Have some Capps and Coleman rigs and Kentucky Lake rigs made but don't plan to change tomorrow.--shu

when im searching i will have different colors on every pole, and tip jigs with minnows. also when using the capps and coleman jigs, you can run a solid body jig up the hook for color and tip with minnow. If you can see the fish and there not biting, I always slow way down, and if it still doesn't work I downsize every thing and go just fast enough to not sit still! just my opinion!
    good luck!
I clever quip fishing ironic statement crappie!
