At 1.3 a 1/16th oz jig pulled approx 60' behing boat will be around 3' deep. You can longline with big motor if it will trol down to 1mph to 1.3mph.

Not to be a smart butt: but are you just working with a form of bass boat,
no depth finder - trolling mtr - rod holders - ?
Just curious tell us a little about the boat.? What you have and don't have.

Until you get rigged out - probably going to go with drifting method.
    That being the case.

Start at Northeast end of lake - couple hundred yards off bank.
    Based on wind direction.
Set out 3 -4 rods - kane poles etc.

Set couple 3 - 4 up with regular # 4 hook, 2 pcs small split shot -slip bobber
keep hook about 1 ft from wgt
Set 2 at 2 ft below surface about 4ft apart.
Set 2 at 5 ft below surface again about 4ft apart.
Pitch them out with good throw away from wind - let wind push boat on drift

Set 2 at 7 ft below surface - put ice jigs (moon jigs on these) hot pink - yellow -
purple. Bait shops should have some of these - If not go to Grizzly Jig co and
order or go online to Skippers Jig - web site and order 352 874-5459 ask for Scott.
He will help you out quite well - mention me if you wish.
You will not need any split shot on these. They have enough to make drift work
    fine.
Should you have any marker bouys - if you take a hit on drift - mark it - on your
next drift try and run same pattern.

Many fish are caught on drift patterns - can be quite effective at times.

There are several brush piles in Tarpon - but without electronics you would be
    hung up many times.

Using big motor to troll is not necessary a good idea - unless you have 4 stroke
and low idle does not bother mtr.
Size of motor also makes big difference.

    Thanks for the info!

It's actually a Logic (plastic boat) 17 footer with a 60 horse Yamaha 2 stroke. The rod holders are a straight vertical type right now. It does have some rails and I'm planning to get at least some Scotty rod holders to attach tot he rails, and I'd like to add something to go across the back to mount rod holders. Another rail maybe? Not really room to use seat post holes for that.

Raymarine dragonfly 4 pro coming Christmas. Trolling motor will be a little later because I need to save up for a saltwater one...and would like to have a remote control too...so not a cheap item.

So right now...I basically have a boat...and some (none Crappie specific, but I do have some sensitive ones) rods.

By sound of things you are planning on "long-ling" freshwater fishing.
Have no idea how slow you can run your 2-stroker - if you could into area
of 1.0 - 1.3 would probably be ok for long lining - don't know if motor would
foul up or not by running that slow.............

At present time your best mode would probably be the drift method....which
belive i spoke about earlier how to set up.

Like most lakes down here - live bait plus the jigs works the best ....
Need some kind of movement even if its a drift...............

Once i get past 15 December, will probably do some fishing on Tarpon, if interested
in fishing with me - let me know your work schedule

can send me a pm with phone number & name & e-mail address.
