Default Catfish bait gives me two bass instead

Last Friday i went fishing at a local pond for some catfish, i was using 1" slices of hot dogs for bait. I wasn't getting much in the way of hits for catfish, but i could feel little ticks on the line from smaller panfish probably pecking at it. I finally felt a good jerk and started to reel in, but whatever it was, there was no fight, but the line was heavy, and i saw this big round green thing. I thought, oh great, i hooked on to some big pile of underwater grass or someones jumbled line. Turned out to be this guy...

I finally got my proof that turtles were messing with my hot dog bait. No harm came to him, it looked like i hooked him under his arm and through his shell, he wasn't bleeding or anything, but he sure wanted to bite my hand as i tried to free the hook. Finally put him back and let him swim off.

It was a little bit after that, that i got another heavy tug, but this had fight in it. I thought i would have finally landed my first catfish after 2 hours of trying. Turned out to be a 13" largemouth bass. I have never caught a bass on a hot dog, nor have i heard of a bass being caught on a hot dog. Certainly surprised me.

I went fishing today, same pond, but this time i wanted to try using bluegill filets for catfish bait. No such luck on the catfish, but once again i felt small ticks on the line from fishing pecking at it. Sometimes taking the whole filet off. I finally decided to go Emeril Lagasse and kick it up a notch by using some picante sauce packets from Burger King to spice up the filets a bit. After an hour of letting the sauce sit in the bag of filets. I took out the first piece and attached it to the hook and threw it out there. The small ticks stop, so i knew the smaller fish didn't want anything to do with it. Then i got a strong hit and started reeling, i felt that this was going to be a good size catfish. It turned out to be a 17 1/2" largemouth bass.

Now, its understandable that a bass would go for a bluegill filet, but a bluegill filet with picante sauce on it?! Who would've thought bass liked spicy food?
