Tennessee River (1938) right where Ky Dam was built 1938-1944...

Town of "Old Gillbertsville" in the background before it had to be moved for Ky Dam construction...

Northern tip of "27 Mile Island" visable in lower right of image...

Railroad bridge pilings (seen in the pic) are still in the river today just downstream (north) of the dam...

The "swing bridge" (seen on left west edge of river) was loaded onto barges and moved to be used somewhere else in the Tennessee River system....

Looks really flat, what's the length of the dam and the depth of the water at the dam?

It would be neat to see a picture of it today to see how it has changed.

Yeah, that would be cool. One taken at the same height and angle.

Ky Dam is 8,422 ft long...206 ft high....

I think the water is around 70 - 80 ft deep on the lake side...

Thanks to kosmo we have SI images of the coffer dams still in the water that were used to redirect the Tennesse River during dam construction...
