    Default Minn Kota Co-pilot problem

2 years ago I added the co-pilot unit to my powerdrive tm with autopilot. It has worked flawlessly till this week. After a 3 month layoff, I finally got a chance to take the boat out. When I plugged up the tm, the powerhead rotated 1 1/2 turns to the left on it's own. After that, nothing. The hand-held wireless remote did nothing, no beep from the co-pilot or anything. The tm still works fine with the corded foot control.

Mine is an older powerdrive with the black plug. I have to unplug the copilot to plug in the corded foot control. Every time I plug in the copilot module the tm powerhead rotates 1 1/2 turns to the left on it's own again. I have tried changing batteries in the cordless remote unit with no effect. If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them. Also, I recall that there is a way to program the unit to match up with the handheld control but can't seem to find the owner's manual. I suspect that could be the problem but don't know.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or sympathy.

The first thing to check is you Trolling batteries. I was told by Minkota that batteries usually only last 18-24 month. What they say is happening is the brain in the auto pilot needs 12v, with the motor running the brain isn't getting a full 12v so it wanders. I had the same problem when I first got my AP. It was agravating to buy two new batteries after just buying the new troller

Get rid of it and get a Minn Kota Maxxum 101.

On the receiver (the part on the motor) there is a small recessed button. Using a pen press and hold the button. The receiver will emit a continuous tone. Press any button on the remote. The receiver should now beep 4 times confirming that it has learned the ID of the remote. Hope that helps.

Thanks, IBNFSHN. I knew there was a way to get the remote synchronized to the module but couldn't remember how. I actually pressed the button but didn't know to hold it. I'll try that next week when I am back at the lake.

If anyone else has other suggestions, let's hear them.
