    Default Say a little prayer

I just received my new 797 by UPS. Opened the box and got everything out. Man, lots of stuff in the box. The manual looks like a copy of War and Peace. I got started on it and it's going to take some reading. Haven't worked this hard since I retired. Maybe by sunday I will remove the old Lowrance GPS unit and install the new HB. The only thing that I have found I like better about the Lowrance is they had a simulator you could load on the PC and practice. Looking forward to getting this thing in the water.
I have tried to read most of the posts here since I decided to order it and they are really a lot of help. Thanks guys.

You are gonna love the 797, but like me it's already time to start lusting for a 997 or 1197.

Installation is pretty straightforward, not much different from any other depthfinder. The only thing that is really critical is to get the transducer mounted so that it will be oriented vertically and horizontally when you are underway at 2-6 mph (that seems to be the best speeds for side-imaging). Even that is not absolutely critical as load factors (passengers, coolers, full livewells of slabs, etc) will change the way the boat sits in the water without noticeable effect unless you really put a lean into the boat.

I mounted my own and if someone electronically challenged like me can do it, you can too.

Now get out there and start seeing what you've been missing. Just don't get so wrapped up in looking that you forget to fish, believe me, it can happen.
