    Default MMC/SD Cards

I was wanting to buy me a memory card for a 997 and was wondering after looking at them online for a while if there is any brand or type that I need to be looking for????? I thought they were all the same but now I'm not so sure anymore....Thanks

    AUTiger.
The best and cheapest place I've found is on E-bay.
You can buy the cards and card reader very reasnoable.
As far as makes. I really think there about the same. Most are made over seas anyway.
Just buy the largest memory you can afford.

The SanDisk Ultra II and Extreme III cards have very fast read/write rates and work well in the 997.

PanMan's got it. The standard SD card has the read write speed of about a 1X CD rom disk. The Ultra is about 66X and the Extreme III is 133X. This adds up when your waiting for a screen capture, especially if your using a standard disk. One thing more on the Extreme III, its suppose to be designed for more extreme conditions.

Sandisk Extreme III 2gb SD card

    The temp conditions sound familiar.

How big a card is going to depend on what you want to do. My Humminbird 997 screen captures are just over 1.2 mb each so you can store a lot of screen captures per gigabyte. Now the guys have the software working to play back recordings you may want to go with at least the 2gb to have enough room to record for a while. I haven't tried recording but the gut feeling says it uses a lot of memory per minute.

Some of the cheap cards like $9.99 to $14.99 like wal-mart sales. will not work in a HB997. They are to slow and will lock up.(will not name because I don't want to bash there product) Get the SanDisk Ultra II, 7 to 8 seconds per snap shot.Or get one of the the Extreme III cards. They are the best. They will takes a snap shot 4 to 5 seconds.

Yes all of the above are correct SanDisk is the one & only. As BamaMan says sandisk Ultra II 7/8 seconds one pic, Extreme III about 3 seconds Means a lot when you are out marking cribs or other close together items. Buy/price online. Circuit city had been having good sales. I order online(to get sale price) then click pick up @ store 15 minutes away & go pick up-no shipping no wait. They had Ex-II one gig for $19.99, I bought my EX-III great sale 2 gig for $32.99. I would go for a 2 gig size took 65 picts in a day & still did not fill up card. some sales always somewhere

I bought a 2GB Crucial SD card for 12.00. 5-7seconds per pic. I'm not in a hurry. I just ordered a second card. I can do an awful lot of recording on these 2 cards, and save a couple bucks.

My understanding of the sd card speed is that it allows more pings per second to be recorded, which in turn gives better details (faster card, more pings), and the byte size of the card does not necessarily mean a larger or longer record time. I could be wrong.

can anyone tell me if the new schc (high capacity) sd cards will work in any of the handheld gps units like a lowrance ifinder (h20 or expedition). It would be nice to be able to put all of the map create maps on one map instead of having to use several 2 gb cards. Has anyone tried them to find out??? Thanks.
