    Im thinking of picking this unit up for m canoe. I fish only small water useing a 30lb trolling motor. How much power do you think the unit draws? I only have one battery in he boat "marine type" to run the trolling motor. Would i be safe to hookup the finder to the one battery or will i drain the battery out?

    I was thinking i could maybe get a 12v rechargeable from radio shack and have it just for the fishfinder.

    You won't use all of that 30lb.s consistently on a canoe. How much are you going to fish? Do you typically fish all day? Half a day? Are you going to paddle once you reach your destination? The 12v rechargeable should be fine for the depth finder.

    CanePole could give you an exact # of how many volts per hour the unit would draw, I'm sure.

    My experience...I have an 18ft. Express w/ a 90 Yamaha. My 40lb. thrust trolling motor will last all day unless I'm in HEAVY current or WIND. Your boat is veeery light...less than 100lbs.

    Buy a rechargeable just for insurance if you don't want to do any paddling.

    You will be fine. I have fished 12 hours using one battery that's running my trolling motor and fish finder.

    Those units don't draw enough current to even consider. In your case, the only drawback with using your TM battery is when the battery starts to get low later in the day, the DF may shut off due to low voltage caused by the initial surge of the TM starting to turn.

    I have gotten a 12v lawnmower or motorcycle batter and ran the finder off it without problems. besides it is small and light weight. just throw it on the charger when you get home.
