    I have no idea how it is working, other than the transducer must somehow be grounded to your boat. I wouldnt have thought it would work that way with all the shielding

    Use a multimeter on continuity setting and check to see if the black wire is grounded to the boat/battery. It kind of has to be, but just to double check.

    My mount is plastic also, im looking at it right now trying to figure out how it could possibly be grounded. Theres obviously a metal bolt going through it and into a nut inside the mount, but I don't see how that could ground the ducer... The housing seems like some sort of plasticy resin material anyways. The wiring is double shielded so that cant be grounding. Its all moot anyways unless its on a metal pole, TM shafts arent conductive.

    I do think it pulls a tiny bit of power through the data cable on the tiny red/black cables, but not enough to run the ducer.
