    Default Garmin questions

Seeing all of the pictures on here have got me interested in getting LiveScope. I bought a 93SV plus with the GT52 transducer during the Cabelas black Friday sale but I have not installed it yet and can still take it back. Looking at the options, it looks like I could get the 93SV UHD with a GT54 transducer for better sidevu and pair it with the LVS32 package for about $2500. It looks like I could also get a 106 with a 10 inch screen and better resolution with a GT54 transducer and the LVS12 transducer (that does not require the black box) for the same $2500. Which is the better option? Would you return the old 93SV?

While the side imaging would be better with the uhd. It still falls short of Humminbird's MEGA SI and DI performance. This is from a guy who loves Garmin. I think you would be better served by a Humminbird G3 MEGA + unit. If DI and SI are going to be relied upon for location of fish.

I use the older Panoptix PS 30 and PS 21 on my boat and use SI and DI very little. So the sub par performance does not concern me. You may feel otherwise.

My opinion is supported by side to side comparison as I also use a Helix 10 Mega SI G2. Humminbird wins for SI and DI. Garmin wins 2D and Livescope and Panoptix technology. By the way the LVS 32 is better than the LVS 12. The LVS 12 has a smaller field search.
Garminarmin gpsmap 1040 xs networked with Garmin gpsmap 1242 xsv , Panoptix PS 30 and PS 31. Livescope LVS 32

Ice rig Echomap Ultra 106SV with LVS 12 and GT10-IF

On the Garmin site, the EchoMap Ultra 106SV with a GT54 transducer and LakeVu maps is $1,999.99. The LVS12 transducer is $499.99 making the total $2500. The LVS32 is $1500 making the total if you went that direction $3,500. The LVS12 will not work with a 93SV so if you buy a 93SV UHD for $1,050 with the GT54 transducer the total with the LVS32 is $2,550. Might be able to get better pricing somewhere else but those are the Garmin retail prices. The LVS32 does have a wider field of view if used in the down direction.

Here are a few things to consider when buying electronics:
    Budget
    Mapping
    Imaging
    Customer Service
How easy is it to use.

Do your research!!! there are plenty of videos on YouTube that will assist you in making your decision. Upgrading electronics can be very expensive so don’t make the mistake of buying on impulse, every time I do this it comes back to bite me. Compare apples to apples there can be a lot of difference in price between units and brands you can’t expect a $1,000 unit to out perform a $2,000 unit it’s just not going to happen however they may be closer in performance level than you think. Ask yourself is it worth the difference in price and will I be happy with the cheaper unit?. If you go with livescope I don’t think you will be disappointed It seems like I learn something every time I use it it’s a game changer for sure. If you can afford the unit with a larger screen I would do it. I will tell you though if you are planning on using the same unit for DI SI, and livescope I think you will find that you will almost always be running livescope on the front of the boat and DI SI on the console I never use DI SI on the front. One thing to consider would be the 1022 no touch unit (keyed) Garmin offers that will work with livescope for about $1,200. Better resolution and larger screen. My 2 cents worth. Hopes this helps.

If you want to find fish and cover from the bow , hard to beat all seeing Livescope . I have a Humminbird right next to my Livescope setup and mark off it when straight over cover with the Garmin . Read up but think they say the Garmin livescope that does not use black box cheaper but not as good .

I agree with NIMROD - I have and like the PS 22, it is close but not quite as sharp as the LS. When I compare the 2 together, there is not much difference, but some. Not enough to upgrade. I have said this before but, here we go again- the most important part of the ps22/ LS is the real time reporting and distance. I truly love it.

Here is a pretty long video from Garmin that looks like a training video of all of the panoptix and livescope options along with some instructions for mounting. Just a whole lot of information. It starts to talk about the LVS12 transducer vs the LVS32 at about the 29 minute mark. I think for crappie fishing, the LVS32 is better with the wider angle of view. For bass fishing or where you are casting forward, the LVS 12 would probably be fine and much cheaper if you have a chartplotter that it will work with like the Ultra's. This is a total 43 minute video but it does have some information I have not seen anywhere else in a good format.
