yes you can go into the menu and set scan speed to match boat speed, about 3mph should work good.

I don't think he meant scroll speed is the same as gain speed. That's why I wanted him to clarify this. You can't set your scroll to a specified MPH,as far as I know.

my bad, I've forgot where to find it, but I do believe it's under sonar settings and I should've said PING speed. The signals from the 'ducer can be turned up or down. For better info on this contact Rickie, rvinc on here he's the 'bird guru.

Scroll speed same as chart speed and boat speed all play apart in making a nice arch.

    Chart Speed
The scrolling or chart speed can also affect the type of arch displayed on the screen. The faster the chart speed, the more pixels are turned on as the fish passes through the cone. This will help display a better fish arch. (However, the chart speed can be turned up too high. This stretches the arch out. Experiment with the chart speed until you find the setting that works best for you.)

Sometimes I get a full arch, bust most times is 1/2 arch or just a ball. I know it is somethin down there if you are moving. I also know if there is a straight line when moving, it is either a fish swimming along with the boat or it is my jig. To be sure, I just raise my jig. If the image moves, it my jig and if it dont move, I have a hitch hiker.

The the thicker the arch, of half arch or "ball", the bigger the fish. Also, the very top of the arch, or half arch or ball, is the actual depth of the fish. If your jig is set near the bottom of the image, you will be below the fish.
