    Default Humminbird Networking/Connecting Newbie Questions

Relatively new to the fish finder world and I have a few quick questions I tried to search but couldn't find great answers for... (These questions relate to Humminbird Helix units specifically)

    1. What exactly does it mean if a unit has "networking" capability. i.e. G2 vs. G2N? Does this mean I can connect it to another helix unit? If my unit is a G2 can I not connect it at all to another helix?

    2. How do the units connect? hard-wire or wireless?

    3. If I have two units that do not have networking capability can they still share the same transducer? i.e. not connect the units themselves but split the transducer signal and send to each individual unit separately?

I recently just bought a Helix 7 SI GPS G2 for my kayak but am planning on also using it on a boat in the next year or two. I imagine I would then like to use it at the dash of the boat and have it connect to an additional bow unit as well. I want to make sure I give myself options before my return period ends. If I need to I'll trade up for the G2N but I'd rather save the extra $100 for other misc. Thank you in advance!

You cannot network the G2, it has to be the G2N.

DHC answered your 1st question ...

    2. Ethernet is cables (if it's only 2 devices). A 3rd Ethernet device would also need the AS ETH 5XPG switch (it's a hub) ...

    3. Same as DHC answered in question 1 = HELIX 7 must be G2N to Ethernet (all HELIX 9, 10, and 12 are Ethernet capable) ...
