It won't hurt the unit to test the power connected to the TM battery ...
Some get lucky and it doesn't create interference on the Sonar unit ...

Running a motor cycle/lawn mower/etc battery for their graph? I’ve been reading up on trolling motor interference, and it seems like running the power for the graph and the power for the trolling motor on the same battery is a no no. I really don’t have room for another deep cycle battery in my boat (only have one currently in the boat) but have a spot where I might could stick a smaller motorcycle type battery. Only thing I’m worried about is the longevity throughout the day, if it’ll have enough juice to keep it running if I fish all day. I’ll be running a Helix 9 gen 1 with SI if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Do you only have one battery total on the boat? No cranking battery for your big motor? If not, you can definitely run on a smaller 12V. Just be sure to put an inline fuse on your power cable. I have run Helix 5s and 7s on kayaks with small sealed lead acid batteries.

That’s correct. I’ve got one battery that I use for a cranking battery and trolling battery, and have powered a small graph off of it up until now. It’s in a 15’ duck boat and the storage compartment for the battery and fuel tank is pretty small. My thinking was just run the graph off of a small battery and leave the rest the way it is.
I ran a 12v riding mower battery for 8 years that powered my livewell pump and sonar units. Just be sure to charge them at the end of the day.
You can even run two 6volt lantern batteries connected in series to make 12v
of course you can't recharge them, but it'll work for temporary stuff
