Problem with lowrance gen 3 9 and xi5 motorguide
I bought a lowrance gen 3 9 for console and a lowrance gen 3 7 for front of boat and got bass pro to hook it up with NMEA 2000 backbone and gateway. Haven't had nothing but problems!! The heading lock will lock down but when you use the arrows to adjust it will go out every time. Then you have to reset. I wish there was someone in middle Ga that could show me how to use this unit. I've been fishing 5 times sent I've had this unit and haven't done nothing but talk to lowrance and motorguide on the phone. If there anybody in middle Ga that can help me I would appreciate it.

If was me, I would save all my wpts and trails on a sd card and do a hard reset and then see if that fixes your problem...If does, then load your wpts and trails back into your unit.

I presume you trolling battery's are good, and the batteries in your hand held and foot control are good? One thing you could try is unhook the nema cable and use the hand remote and see if it still does it, if it does it would be a xi5 issue and not your graphs.

Not sure if these will help but read thru/watch them and then decide. I ran across these as I was researching the XI5/gateway connection as I am contemplating going the same route as you have regarding the purchase of an XI5 then connecting with my Lowrance HDS units.Originally Posted by hammerhead 50

The important part that I picked up on from the lowrance engineer was the part about not powering up the gateway until both the trolling motor and hds units had secured a gps signal at the 5 min 8 second time frame on the youtube video. Also try doing a youtube search for Lowrance gateway kit installation. Hope this helps.
