Default Location of shad when they show up on screen?

Hi guys, trying to figure out exactly where baitfish are. I have a 9 inch helix SI unit mounted on the back of the boat. when I first see a ball of shad exactly where are they in relation to the boat. Since it sends out a cone is it depth dependent? I am trying to figure out when to throw the casting net. Thanks for the help.

SI Sonar beams are very wide left and right ... but very thin front to back ...

The most recent data (ping) is the 1st horizontal row of pixels across the SI display (see the yellow slice beams in the below diagram) ..

All data below the 1st horizontal row of pixels and scrolling down the SI image is "history" of the recorded SI pings ... and stuff you've already passed over ...as G mentions ...

    -----

You can turn on "SI Range Lines" under the Sonar tab to get an estimate of how far the target is from the xducer ...
    -----

Then if there is a shadow created by the target - you can use the below diagram to help discern where that target is in the water column ...

Well have you ever seen an aluminum boat dry rot, lol. Thursday was the first I've had it in the water in over 2 months, work and everything else is consuming my time. Hopefully I'll get to start here real soon .

Sounds good to me, did you retire or are you with the school district down there? I'll see what I can do, never been on that lake.
