    Default Is transducer bad?

My brother has a Lowrance X 510c mounted with a relay switch and two transducers front and back. He just re-carpeted his boat and when he used it for the first the transducer on the back showed fish icons(I know ,shouldn't use them). When he switched to the front, this transducer did not display icons.....Is the transducer bad?.... It shows depth and bottom contures.....Could it be hooked up wrong or what ever?......crappie1133

Just for grins and giggles ... switch the cables going from the switch to the 2 xducers and see if the icons start showing from the front xducer ...

Are the fishies (Fish ID) turned on on the front unit? That controls the fishes. Also check sensitivity settings.

My brother is going this week end and has reversed the leads as Rickie suggested. Will let you know the results. Cane Pole thanks for the chuckle. It's happened so many times to me....... I guess that's why I get such a big laugh from it. Laughing at ourselves is what life is all about......Thanks guys for the input....crappie1133

Just talked to my brother about his transducer problem. He switched the transducers as Rickie suggested .The transducer shows bottom, depth and bottom contours but will not show fish icons. There is a one to one and a half foot difference in the depth from front to back as normal. Question: Is it possible that the transducer is going bad? It was working prior to placing new carpet. Is it just a coincedance........maybe one of our members has had this problem......thanks, crappie1133

xducers do wear out over time (get weaker) ...

Now I can't imagine what changing the carpet would have to do with it ...

Now that I have recovered from my brain fart, a bad connection can cause signal loss. @ corrosion, bad crimp/splice, cold solder joint, loose connector/connection and possible bad switch. Just because a connection "looks good" don't make it a fact. Check it all out. Just trying to resurrect myself.

Rickie the man that did the recarpeting disconnected both transducers and we were wondering if he hooked them back up correctly. It appears that depth, temperature and bottom contours are the same on both transducers . If the connectors are o.k., then we may have a weakened transducer. That transducer is approxiamatly 8 to 10 years old....thanks for the comments......crappie1133
