Default Can you use both Navionics and LakeMaster on same unit?

I just ordered a Lowrance Hook-5 that comes pre-loaded with Navionics +. If at some point I wanted to I also add and use Lakemaster with it does it cause problems with having the Navionics being preloaded in the unit?

Thanks in advance for any input

The Hook comes loaded with Lowrance Insight base map. Lake master may not run in the HOOK, try it it may work. Lake master is Humminbird product. Navionics comes on a Map Card look at the Navionics+ Preloaded

Thanks, I hadn't realized it was a Humminbird product.

Do you know if since I ordered the Hook pre-loaded with Navionics + does it still come with a card, or is it all just loaded on the unit permanently?

Navionics + comes on a card and is not loaded permanently in the unit. You can preview the Navionics mapping online on the web app https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=e...%7B%7CkoGfinxP when you zoom in n an area click on the sonar icon fro the High Def Sonar Charts layer. The way way Nav+ works is the card comes preloaded with Navionics base layer Nautical Charts then you download the High Def Sonar Chart layer to the areas that you fish. Link to Nav+ info Navionics Plus | Navionics

Its a very simple process to add the SonarChart layer. The permanent map in the unit is Lowrance Base map with very little detail you made a good choice.

    Thanks again for the help.

Funny, I often use that link you supplied. I even posted it on another thread a few days ago LOL. If you don't mind I have a couple more question now that I realize what comes with the new software and since you seem to maybe work for them or at least are the "local" specialist on the topic you are probably the person to ask

This purchase if for a kayak but I currently have Hot Maps East on a Hummingbird unit on my larger boat that I have had for a few years. I had read where with the new version, the one that you need to download the areas you want there is a limit to the amount you can download. While I am certain it is far more than I would ever use I was wondering how the size of that data allowed compares to the size of what was Hot Maps East and I currently have? In other words could I try and duplicate that or would I hit my capacity limit before doing so?

One more question. It sounds like you only have one year to download maps. So if this year I was only going to be fishing a few lakes but in two or three years were to decide to go on a fishing trip somewhere, would I have to pay an additional fee even though I only used a small fraction of my purchase by then? And if so do you know what the charge is to download more lakes at that point?

Thanks again, I do appreciate you taking the time responding to my questions.

Have you gotten you Navionics+ card yet?

Premium or Platinum? Premium is 2gb card and Platinum is a 16gb card that will make a
difference. The new Navionics+ for 2016 comes on 16gb card, it is preloaded with Nautical Charts for US Canada. Nautical Charts is what comes on Hotmaps Premium.

Yes one year to add and subtract data. After that the renew is 50% of new card.
Remember that with the subscription gives you the ability to refresh your card thru out the year so as Navionics adds more mapping data to the card you can refresh it as many times as you want along with adding lake mapping of new lakes.

I have Hot Maps East Premium now on the other unit and it covers a large portion of the country and anywhere that I would possibly go in the future. I guess what I am asking is could I duplicate all the states that are currently covered by HM Premium East and stay within the limits? I like the idea of having the entire region so I know I'm covered for any future trips I may plan. That is the one thing I really liked about the old set up to where you can buy a region and know you had it for when you may need it. Who can possibly know what specific lake they may fish on at some point in the future when they go on a trip somewhere? Having all the lakes in a region pretty well has you covered. Unless I am misunderstanding if once every year or two a fellow went on a fishing trip somewhere with some friends it could really end up being a lot more expensive with the new set up than it was previously with Hot Maps. Hopefully I can download all the states I had with the East and stay within the limits.

    Thanks again for your time.

It comes loaded with all OF US and Canada lakes in the Nautical Charts detail. So what you see on your map card will be the same level of detail available for all of US and Canada just not the east. Your Hotmaps Premium East just covers the East not all of US and Canada. Go the the web app and open it scroll around without clicking on the sonar icon on the lower left this is what you will see for all of US and Canada on Navionics+. You then add the SonarChart layer to the card for the areas that you fish. Click on the sonar Icon for the SoanrChart detail. Depending on how much data space the SonarChart layer consumes on the card will determine how big an area you can load.

Here is an example I live in the arctic circle aka Minnesota I can load the SonarChart layer for all of MN, a strip of Southern Canada and Wisc including the land mass and water and this consumes 2GB of data

The Navionics program will tell you how full your card is when you load the SonarCHart layer

In theory you can just by the card register and use it without loading anything on it if it is the Navionics+ preloaded. Look at the package it will say preloaded on the front of it.

I apologize for my ignorance. I haven't received it yet so there is nothing for me to look at and apparently I misunderstood the difference between my old Hot maps premium and Navionics +.

So basically if I am understanding correctly Hot Maps premium was just nautical maps only with no sonar maps at all and of course limited to the East in the version I have. And now with Navionics + I will have the same maps (nautical) that I had with Hot maps only for the entire USA and additionally if I choose to I can download sonar maps which I never had in the first place with Hot maps.

I think I only have one more question. Once you download a sonar map for a lake can you switch between the nautical and sonar maps when viewing in the Lowrence or does the sonar map replace the nautical one?

Thanks for you time and patience. When I was buying the Lowrance unit paying the extra for the Navionics to come with the unit was just a last moment impulse and I didn't even know about all the changes until after the fact. Since I have Navionics already and was happy with the product it seemed like a no-brainer.

I have a question for you Kirth. I just bought the HotMaps Platinum East. Its my understanding that the lakes that have been loaded on this card have all the updated HD versions. Would there be any need for me buy the upgrade package? Also can any lakes that are not in this region be downloaded on the card?
    Thanks
