Default Time to replace onboard charger ...

Well guys ... After 17 years one of my XPS on board chargers (2 bank) from Bass Pro finally has a bad bank ...

This is for my 24v system TM batteries ... (I'm running 2 Everstart Maxx-29DC 114 amp hour)...

Are the XPS from Bass Pro still made ...and still made by Pro Mariner ...??

    Other suggestions ... ??

The box on mine says, "Engineered by ProMariner". Got the XPS 5/5/5 and love it. I was going to go to the equivalent MinnKota model, but I got 20% off the XPS so it was a great deal.

Rickie, I had the BPS 2 bank 10 amp on my 2000 Tracker and it was still going strong when I sold it last month. I bought a new(to me) boat and had to get a charger. I found the Minnkota 2 bank on sale at Walmart.com for $105.00 plus MK had a $30 rebate so I ordered one. Two things bothered me so I returned it to Walmart for a refund.
    1. It was really heavy, almost 11 pounds and the BPS one weighed about 4 lbs.
    2. The MK did not fully distribute the 10 amps over the batteries like the BPS one did. Each bank got 5 amps max so it would take a lot longer to charge up a depleted TM battery if it would not apply the full 10 amps.
I am sure MK makes a good product but those two issues caused me to return it and get one from BPS.
The new BPS one has more bells and whistles than the old one even though it is the same 10 amp 2 bank style charger. I have only had it a couple of weeks, but far as I can tell it works fine.
The only concern I have is the "go fish" light has not come on. It has a light bar that flashes red when charging, amber when reconditioning, and green when ready. Mine goes to green when charged, but I thought a some point it would go off and the "go fish" light would come on. Saying all this makes me realize I need to go back and read the manual again.

This is the latest version of the onboard charger that I have : Amazon.com : MinnKota MK 220D On-Board Battery Charger (2 Banks, 10 Amps Per Bank) : Boating Battery Chargers : Sports & Outdoors

My MinnKota 220 (2 bank @ 10amps/bank) has done a great job of keeping my Everstart 24DC & 27DC batteries charged & maintained.

Can't speak for other brands, as this is the first & only onboard charger I have any experience with. Bought in 2010 by previous owner of boat.

When my last XPS died I bought the ProMariner because it was on sale at local BPS a lot cheaper than the XPS and they did not have it in stock that day. My XPS got killed by me not its fault. Did a fine job for me. Talked a few times with one of the tech guys at ProMariner. Great people to do business with.

Most modern day chargers have to see some voltage before they will even work. Try connecting a good battery in parallel with the bad one and let them sit for a hour or 2 then connect the charger. Even if it does recharge chances are its life will be greatly reduced. Best to just bite the bullet and buy a new one.
