I love my 899. Keep in mind, if you buy an 899 never put the trnsducer on the boat, send it back to humminbird immediately and swap it out for a HD transducer. I think it cost round $100 extra, but well worth it. That is alot cheaper than buying the HD transducer out right. Im pretty sure the 999 and larger units come stock with the HD transducer. So if money aint a thing, go at least with 999.

You can still use the humminbird 859 at bow with the terrova trolling motor. But its not possible with the ulterra. I have had my ulterra trolling motor for over a month now and can not find a way to make it work. So now all I am utilizing at the bow is 2D sonar and mapping. Which is ok, but not what I wanted. So if u ever have plans of gettng ulterra and want HDdown imaging at the bow its not possible yet. There is a thing called the daducer which goes in the water beside the trolling motor, but that defeats the purpose of auto stow and deploy in my opinion. Im going to put my HD transducer on the back of my boat and run it to my bow. Again not what I wanted but will have to make due.

I have the daducer on the bow for my 360 and an attachment on it for my 1199si. I run a lowrance 12 touch on the console. I went with the daducer because I will upgrade to the ulterra sooner or later. I like both, the hummingbird utilizes the lake master map for Kentucky Lake which is a real plus. I don't consider the daducer a negative option and you can't find anybody better than Rickie to work with. Just my two cents.

Showme, if you post over on the Missouri forum, I'm sure someone will take you out for a ride if you want to see some of the different set-ups. Which lake do you call home?

I came from the HB 898 and 1199 and they are pretty darn good units. Just got a new boat and went with Garmin sv series. I am very happy with its performance relative to price point. I'm just hoping they will be releasing custom mapping or other mapping options down the road, only thing left to be desired for me. My biggest complaint with HB is their readout boxes that eat up valuable real estate and should really be a customizable overlay option.

I have been researching Garmin some. I really like their units and images. But.... Im not seeing where they r much cheaper. Not so much cheaper to make me want to experiment or go with the real deal the tried and true. Im not saying i dislike the units, cuz i really think i do like them well. Just if ima spend $800 for experiment ima spend the $1,000 for what I know. Ya know? Someone please fill me in if im wrong. I like knowing everything
