Default What Ram Mount do I need for my HDS 7 Touch?

Got my HDS 7 Touch today but not sure if the guy sold me the right Ram Mount. He told me to get the medium size mount. Believe the number is RAM-111. Should I keep and use the medium sized one I got or do I need to switch it to a heavy duty one? It's going on the console

I've been using the medium size one on my HDS7 non touch for a couple years and it's worked fine for me.

Okay. I was a little worried bc he kept bragging about how strong that heavy duty mount they sell for 140 bucks is and said since I'll be right beside this unit at the console said the medium would be fine. Just got a little worried. Only thing I forgot to get but will is that puck that goes under the regular base so you can feed the ores through with

I use the 1.5" mount, I guess that's medium for my Elite 7 HDI. It has never moved, and I am about to put my new 7 Touch on it. Not worried at all.

I've got an HDS7 and HDS10. I have the 10 on a 2" mount. It moves slightly but not much. The HDS7 on the bow takes a beating and the 1.5" is not big enough in my opinion.

I'm going to upgrade to the "Balzout" sonar mount as there is simply no question about movement any more. It simply will not move. Can't. It's got preset gears that lock it into place.

I ended up ordering the heavy duty one just to be on the safe side. And bought that puck base that goes underneath and let's the cables come through

I think for anyone else considering this you need to figure in how long an "arm" you might be planning on using with it. If I remember correctly the medium (1 1/2" ball) is rated for up to 11 pounds, but that may be direct weight. Longer arms would multiply the force exerted on the gripping surface as would offset angles. I got by fine all of last year (touch 7) with a 6" arm and a straight line angle to the ball. I've changed things around for this year adding both length and offset. Since mine is a bow mount I'm betting it won't hold now and am expecting to have to go with the 2" ball and arms or lay it down when running under power.

This is correct. My 1.5 is at the console on a 6" arm, it does not move. On the bow, it would most likely move. About to put my Elite 7 on the bow, not sure if I'll use the gimbal or some sort of Ram.
