does anybody know when Humminbird will release ION for customer? why did it delayed so much? it has ben so much that they show up Ion as the new model in their web site but they still havent released them! are they working about the software of it or it delayed because of the delayment of producing side? ( still not enough products for the market)

I wonder if you will ever see the ION. It will be a hard sell to the off shore users as it is. And with all the issues with there new ONIX series, that certainly can't help with the launch of the ION to what would be an unexplored market for Humminbird.

HB definitely has an uphill climb to get into the blue water market that has been dominated for decades by Furuno, Simrad, Garmin..etc

Still not much HB chatter at THT...and I read it every day...

It's gonna take a few brave (or are they?)...guinae pigs with "spectacular results" to lure the blue water masses away from "tried and true" brands they've been happy with for 10-25 years runnin the same units...

These guys fish for a living ...with $10K (+) electronics that provide their only source of income...

Results and reliability are more than just "interests"...when there is that much $$ invested for one's livelihood ...

Yes Humminbird is hardly a consideration at all on THT, which is the most active of any of this type of forums.
Over the years there has been only one consistent Humminbird supporter, and he always defends "BIRD".
For sure an uphill climb, HB is not even at the base of that mountain yet!!!

But good luck on their attempt....

As of right now Humminbird or Lowrance can compete with the blue water market. Though, Humminbird has not tried until now. They try to make affordable, easy to use units for fisherman. Garmin is by far the best unit on the market, but for freshwater fishing the $1000 to $1500 Humminbirds and Lowrances are all you need. You don't need radar and other features. Chirp is nice, but not needed either.

As far as the Ion, it's like any other first year product, wait and let someone else get bugs out. I would definitely go with the Garmin units for Deeper saltwater hands down. Humminbird has an awesome research team and the money to spend, now that they are setting goals for the market everyone else better watch out. They have the best Customer service and truly care about the fishing industry.

By the way the people at the Hull Truth have their own clicks and argue all the time. Some knowledgable guys on there but they have a different mentality than most of us. It's different when fishing in a $100,000 rig, in hundreds of feet of water. They got money to waste or maybe the need for toys. The best saltwater guides around here (Gulf of Mexico area) all use Garmin. I recommend this site and BBC for electronic insight for freshwater fishing. Ask yourself, if spending $3000+ on a unit really going to increase your catch ratio or actually take away from fishing time. If you just have money to waste donate to the youth in your area.
