    Default Humminbird depth issue

I have a humminbird 798 and it always reads me depth 2-4 shallower than the water actually is. Just wondering if my transducer is off a little bit of if there's another issue. Any input is greatly appreciated

you have to adjust for it being under the water, if it is on your trlling motor it will read less than it is

It's at the rear of the boat. Last summer I noticed it whenever I got out of my boat when my unit read 4 ft and the depth was a good 2 feet over my head and I'm 6 foot

Just run a rod or paddle down to the bottom and you should have a pretty good idea in the difference in the front and back. Careful with a rod tip as it might come back a few inches short.

It needs to have the depth adjusted and make sure the transducer is level. I have never saw one off by 4 foot. It must have the depth offset way off.

make sure the transducer is level -- with the water line on your boat- If it's level with the boat bottom and it sits low in the back, as most do, then it's looking slightly forward and the bottom will look farther away, or deeper than it is.

Under the Setup tab in the main menu...

Set the "User Mode" to"Advanced" ...

Then down to "Depth Offset" ...
