Morning all, I have just purchased and installe a 998c si for crappie fishing on a 14ft Lund. I mainly fish strip pits in S. Il. The setting on the fish finder shouw detail like huge rocks very well. I cannot see bruch under the water though even when I know it is there. Any ideas on what seting needs changed. I have tried diffrent sensitivity settings but still cant see brush piles?

Learning to spot and identify brush is challenging in SI...

Brush does not give a good hard surface for the sonar to bounce off of...especially if it's old and water logged...

Brush will show up better against the dark water column background if you can scan directly over the brush...

Here is a snapshot (from my 1197 and from Humviewer of the same bottom coverqage) that has both brush in the dark water column and out to the side of the dark water column....

Notice that brush out to the side of the dark water column is easier to identify by looking for the shadow that it creates..which then will help your "mind's eye" to pick out the brush from it's shadow....
