    Default Updating HB software


    I tried installing updated software on my Humminbird 798, but it doesn't seem to be the case. I've downloaded the newest version onto an SD card. It's says all waypoints have been transferred (or something like that), and then that there is no new NAV data. When I go into the system information it still says that I'm using version 5.840, not 6.300.

    I've tried deleting and updating again the SD, but to no avail. Ideas?

    Does the 798 have the internal or external GPS antenna? Where did you get the update?

    If you don't have the right update for the unit, it won't recognize it.

    Sounds like you are trying to install an update for a 798ci SI in a 798c Si or visa versa.

    Like Whiskers said... make sure you have the correct update for your specific unit model number here... Login

    (I'm not 100% sure that list is as current as what would be in your HB account)..

    I'm just downloading what my HB account says is the current update.

    When powering on the unit, it keeps asking if I want update from 5.840 to 6.300. I did restore defaults...pretty much followed what HB says to do. I'm guessing I'll be in the waiting line with customer service, just as soon as I've got an hour or so to kill.

    Try calling during the week. I have never had to wait more than a couple of minutes when doing so.

    From this... The unit is recognising there is an update on the card....

    There are 2 questions the unit asks when it recognises an update....

    1. "Do you want to update from version X to version Y ?" Answer -"Yes"
    2. "Do you want to abort this update?" Answer - "No"

    Is this the question sequence you followed??
