It's not backwards. I don't know if having it that close to the skeg with affect it or not. You may just have to give it a try and see unless someone else comes along that knows something different.
I was wondering if you guys could help me. I am installing a HB 597CI DI and I am mounting the transducer on MK trolling motor. Do I have it installed correctly. I have it up close to the keel ..will that effect the image or do I need to move it back some? Heck I might even have it installed backwards..lol. Any help would be appreciated.

I can move it back but I was worried about hitting something and knocking it back into the prop. I fish reelfoot and the TM takes a beating. Thanks for your help!
Looks good to me, mine is that close and it doesn't have any trouble

HB just came out with a new transducer specifically made for a trolling motor. I think the model number you need is XTM-9-DI-25. Web site says they are not available but if you call them they are. I got mine last week and it is great. Much less likely to get torn up.
On Reelfoot its going to hit lots and lots of things... Its going to get beat up no matter what you do. I'm thinking the skeg is going to interfere some. I would slide it back some.
