I was also able to find a few instances where certain individuals eluded to a "45degree" beam angle but that would only pertain to 1 of the frequencies (probably the 800)... Even then, their comments seemed more of a "guess" than speaking from logged data somewhere....

The "depth vs coverage" chart link that was provided earlier in the thread also seems to refer to the Structure Scan models and doesn't clearly define as being able to pertain to the DSI models ...it does show coverage for the "down imaging" feature of the SS but that doesn't mean those same numbers to be applied to the DSI models that do not use the LSS-1 module xducer... The DSI models xducer is different then the xducer for the HDS SS, therefore it's got to have specs somewhere... But where..??

It's almost as if Lowrance doesn't want anyone to know what the beam angles for the DSI models are for sure...

Have you thought about calling Lowrance and asking them where we can locate the verified 455 and 800 DSI beams angles...??

Thanks Tom.. I would assume that 6 degree number is front to back..( a 6 degree slice side to side would be ...what... Less than a foot across in 10 ft of water...??)

We are interested in finding documentation of the side to side beam angle coverage...

HB advertises their dedicated DI models as 455=75 degrees, 800=45 degrees...

We cannot seem to locate documentation of Lowrances DSI angles for the 455 and 800...

The chart that was provided earlier in the thread was for the "down imaging" feature of the LSS-1 Structure Scan xducer....

Beings as the SS xducer and the DSI xducer are completely different... I would think the DSI xducer would have it's own set of specs....

Got any ideas where to find the 455 and 800 side to side specs of the DSI xducer...??

OK. It finally soaked in what you were asking. The FAN coverage. A good swag would be about the same coverage. Both use the same frequencies and both have the same transmit power rating 500w rms. Both use the same max depth of 250 ft. So that puts them in the same pig pen.

I see what you are saying Tom about they should be similar in specs...

It seems very curious to me why Lowrance would not advertise the specs on these DSI xducers...

Maybe they think us regular folk ain't smart enough to what a beam angle means anyway...

I don't know, Rickie ... they thought us smart enough to use this unit with that "so called" manual they put out Rofl
And they lumped all of the Elite series units into ONE emulator program .... hehe !!

Maybe they're giving us more credit than we realize .... but, yeah, you'd think that this "award winning" unit would have all the spec info one could think to ask for, right out there in plain sight !!

Personally ... I think I'm going to go with the 455/75 - 800/45 - 6deg f/r numbers, until I hear otherwise. At least we have a chart with those angles/equations to go by. But, I'd still like confirmation that these numbers are correct. Might have to send Jason a PM & get him involved in this thread.

For me, at least .... having GPS/maps/water temp, along with a color DF, is worth the monies that mine cost me ... even if the unit doesn't have 2d, known l/r cone angles, or shows a screen picture anywhere close to what the emulator/simulator programs show. :p But, I'll still keep this thread going ... 'cause the more I know about this unit, the better I'll be able to use it, and hopefully it will benefit others that have or are thinking about having one.

FYI, I was able to get the old Map Create program to work on my new computer so I compared it with the base map that comes with the unit. The base map is much better than map create. I was just curious.

I'll tell you here in case someone else wants to know. So far this has been working fine for me and I'm running Win7, 64 bit. There may be a shorter way but this is how I did it. Load the program, right click on the shortcut to it created on your desktop, then click compatibility and change it to run in Windows 2000. I tried some of the others but Win 2000 seems to be working the best.
