After a day on the water and some playing, I can safely say mine doesn't look like the pics on the website, but I am impressed with it otherwise, I just need some more time with it. I tried going over the same structure in 455 and 800 and couldn't really see much difference other than the bottom echo, so I will keep plugging along with it, thanks for the thread and keep them coming
In shallow water there is not much difference. The deeper you go, the more the 800hz signal loses.
Did you try it with a split screen, or single/full screens with each kHz setting ??
Reason I ask is ... when on the emulator program, on the split screen mode, it's the same image ... but, just looks like a slightly more defined picture on the higher kHz setting image. If you go to the split zoom (2x) ... it's the same image on both sides, but the 2X image shows a larger picture, still with only slightly more defined images. NOTE : the emulator program is showing 83/200 kHz readings of another Elite 5 version. I've not found a emulator exclusively for the E5DSI. I may have to just hook up my unit & use the simulator program, on it, and see what that shows me.

I am thinking about upgrading to a Elite 5 DSI. I am wondering a couple of things, First since I want to install this in the bow and mount the transducer on the TM, How might i expect to see a brush pile appear on screen if I am not moving. Secondly I would like to know if I could use a waypoint to stay on a spot instead of putting out a marker. My hands get pretty cold rolling up wet string. I hope my questions on this thread are not out of line but I thought that maybe someone else might have the same questions and the information coming out here has been GREAT!!!! Thanks.
Tho it is hard to not move at all, if you are perfectly still over an object, it will not look like a brush pile. It will just be a solid line or mass above the bottom. Way points and gps are only as good as the gps system is. The best gps can do is about 10 meters of accuracy. Not good enough to stay directly over a brush pile. You can stay close.
Thanks FAADAN. So from what you said a brush pile will look like a solid line or mass above the bottom when you are setting and fishing brush. So the pictures of the well defined structure from the DSI units must be from scanning when the boat is moving? Makes me wonder if I really want DSI in the bow. I'm sure I do not want bow GPS on a 5" screen in the bow. That is going to be impossible to see from a standing position.
The only way you will see the definition of branches and limbs is if the beam is moving over an object. It puts out a narrow oval beam so the boat or the target must be moving to perpendicular to the long axis of the beam to get good definition. At least to a certain point, the faster you move over a target, the more definition you will get. I'm not sure what happens at very high speeds because mine is on the TM and I don't move more than 2.5 mph with the trolling motor. You can zoom in on a waypoint and keep your boat relatively close to a brush pile or something on the bottom, but it is limited to the accuracy of GPS and that is measured in meters, not inches.
can you input a lat/long way point into the unit while sitting at the house, then go to it on the water???????
