The fish were probably slowly moving out of the di cone area. If they remained in the cone and stationary and the boat stationary, it would become a straight line. My take based on scientific facts.
this is a really good question that you asking.ive never thought about this. im kindof thinking that you would see and image of multiple fish. ireally dont no but as long as the fish stays in the coverage area of the di beam it seems like it would be pinged over and over.these little computers that we have,(and thats really what they are)would have to use there software to interpret what its pinging and then display it on the screen in a way that we can interpret it. while im posting i would like to ask about the picture that i posted above.in that picture my boat is not moving, how did my unit show those individual fish? why not just lines across the screen? its kindof got me confused on how this stuff is working

When you dead still , everything in the cone turns to straight lines. My observation.

I cant see anything, theres to much glareRofl
Just kidding around.those are some very good pictures.please post more when you can.could you also comment on your feelings about 2d v. Di and if you use them together to help in your fishing.Hands Clapping
I usually use the split screen 2d and di. I'm still playing around with my settings but I'm impressed. With this unit so far bigest thing in 2d mode on hb is turning off fish id plus u won't look back
An interesting test that anyone can do with DI....
Anchor the boat so it is dead still....
Drop your jig in front of (or behind) the DI sonar beam (such that the jig is not showing on the screen)
Now drag the jig completely thru the thin sliced DI sonar beam
The echo that shows up on your screen should look like a small fish echo ( because only a "very few" pings actually reflected off the jig.)....
Now, for the 2nd test...
Drag the jig into the thin slice DI sonar beam and hold it steady ...
The echo that shows on your screen should be straight line ( because EVERY ping is reflecting off of the jig)....
Now for the 3rd test
Holding the jig in the thin sliced DI sonar beam... Raise or lower your jig to a different depth...
The solid line from test 2 above should follow the movement you are imparting on the jig ( because EVERY ping is still reflecting off of the jig ... But at different depths in the DI sonar beam.
Remember, the DI image showing on the screen is nothing more than a "compilation" of the individual "pings" stacked on top of one another from right to left ... With the most recent ping on the right of the screen...
If your jig does not show at all... Turn up your sensitivity for the test

heres three pictures that i took with my 597hd/di. the two that are just the di view only were taken below Barkley dam, just below were the water comes through the gates. theres a lot of fish hanging around.the other picture,is a split 2d over di picture it was taken in Kentucky lake toughs fish holding off to the side were 7 to 9 inch crappie or thats what i believe they are. i caught many crappiie there that day and thats the size that most were. they all got released and as i was leaving i took this picture.i thought that id share them with a little info about them
