that is a very good question stymie and one that i do not no the answer to.i am still working double shifts and in big hurry trying to test this unit and do other things while trying to get enough sleep. it could be that i accidentally used the simalator play back on that picture.i do not no, but if i did the gps coorinates in the picture would tell.it could be that the recording that i made,i viewed it in the garage and the unit was reading the actual temperature at that time, not sure. could you check the gps coorinates for me.thanks'''''''' can you think of another reason for this if so please post here. i really need to get some rest now. ill check back tonight before i go back to work

    Little Bear Creek.

Sorry, had to wait til I got home to look it up.

You know, someone once told me that every gallon of water in the Tennessee River is processed 30 times before it makes it to the gulf.

Also why is the screen stretched out when you go to the split screen (DI/2d)? This view distorts the structure signifigantly. Is there a setting to reduce this distortion? Also is there a setting to get this finder to work in less than 3 feet of water without the digital reading going from 1 foot to 400 feet? There are solid horizontal bars of several layers blue/yellow/red in addition to the incorrect depth readings when in this shallow water. I have been very frustrated with all the issues this unit has been giving me. any help would be appreciated.
badaxed............i reset to factory defaults went into shallow water and your right my degital readings when haywire. i went to main menu /sonar/surface clutter........... increased the number there and everthing works just fine. i was in water as shallow as 2 feet. heres a picture. P.S. i m still not sure were the distortion is that you speak of.i think my spilt screen really looks great. its my favorite screen that i use

heres some pictures that i used the 800khz on.the first has a spoonbill catfish in it. the last picture i used my outboard motor to navigate with, just had the trolling motor in the water.had my 997 running to to see if i would get any interference.this is something that i plan on doing later.that is leaving the 597 running with the recording option on while navigating with the outboard using the 997 as the primarry and the 597 as secondary unit .then view the recording later on 597 .the verdict is still out out on which i like best, but im leaning towards thr 455 khz for right now
