Why not go with 2 898's. And do you slow troll? Buy the biggest screens you can afford the first time.
first of all let me say I'm definitly going with Humminbird sonars.my original plan was to add a sonar with just GPS for the maps at my console.I wasn't really planning for anything else until I started looking at all of em.
so know my plan is for 2 sonars.one at the bow and at the console.I've gone back and fourth on which to get where.do I put Si at the bow and just Di at the console or visa versa? or Si at both places.Doh
naturally I spend 90% of my time at the bow fishing and I know how Si can react to moving the trolling motor, but I imagine I can deal with that.
so here are my combinations:
2-798 ci HD Si cimbo's bow and console
798 ci HD Si and a 788 ci HD Di, bow or console
898 c Si combo at the bow and a 798 or a 597 ci HD Di combo at the console
798 at the bow and a 597 at the console or visa versa
or any other ideas that anyone may have.
the problem I'm having is trying to decide how much will I use Si at the console or the bow.is side imaging worth the money for crappie fishing?I fish the Atchafalya basin in south louisiana most of the time if this matters!!
any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!Thumbs Up

I went with Lowrance and was going to go with 2 smaller units. Virtually everyones advice was to go with the bigger screen.
I decided to skip the smaller units and ended up with an HDS-8 w/ SI. I only have the one unit but I can always add to it later.
I'm glad I took their advice.
SI on the bow is invaluable....
When I'm creeping up on a marked brushpile with my chart view / SI view split screen...
If I miss the brushpile by 5ft left or right it wouldn't show up on the 2d in shallower water...
The SI tells me exactly which side of the boat I missed the brushpile....

I'd go dual SI units. You will get more information from them.

thanks guys for the input! I think I have it narrowed down to a 898 at the console and a 798 at the bow.I'd go with 2 898's but I've had the boat up for sale cause I want a wareagle 861 predator but as long as I have the boat I'm going to put some good sonars on it!!!
