if u read in the 997 manual it says when still it will turn to donut ,and when u move it shouldnt be a donut, they need to change manual if its working like its suppose to
The fact is, it is working as they designed it. Do other units do it better, many folks think so, as they want a direction arrow under .5 MPH. Probably any number of different competing products have certain features that are a step ahead of the competition. That doesn't make the other unit flawed. I wish folks would get off this kick that the H/B unit is defective or flawed. It's working as designed. I want to see the thread kept on track, and that track I believe is to hopefully have H/B make "improvements" to their GPS tracking, rather than "correct a fault".

What they really need to do is. When you go to what ever vendor you choose to go in person to look at there units with gps they should advertise if you go below a certain MPH the donut will appear. I know when I went to look at there combo fishfinders you dont see the donut on there gps. To me if that isnt disclosed in nothing or whoever you buy it from doesnt tell you of the donut, it is misleading sale tactics. I watched one of my fishing shows on tv and they were telling you what they were doing and showing the mapping and then they flashed back to there HB unit and there the donut was. Its was Infisherman or Linders angling edge I cant remember which specific one but it was one of these shows. Now when they are advertising there gps units on there shows, showing you how to use gps why dont they tell you about the donut. Do you think HB would like that, if there products are what they say they are and they are proud of them then I think the public should know.
I still like the idea of having the slow speed directional icon user selectable...(just like the new "Contour" feature)
Those that find the round circular icon advantageous can select their preferred setting..
Those that find a boat shaped icon advantageous can select their preferred setting...
That would unmistakenably be a considered a "feature improvement" and not a "fix a fault"...
