The pre-orders are saying 1/27/10. You'd figure the retailers would be trying to move that old stock off the shelves rather than holding those prices up there. They're at least gonna have to get the prices lower (actually MUCH lower) than the newest *98 series combos. (For the hardened shoppers anyway). I'm getting into this SI business but I can wait a month to get the newest 998c series combo unit, ready to fish with all the upgrades. It should be LESS $$$$ than what some are askin' now for a 997c unit.

OK, so on Wednesday the 30th I decided to call J & H Products at Marine Electronics & Fishing Equipment, Buy Humminbird, Raymarine & Garmin Fishfinders, Handheld GPS, Chartplotters, Radios, Radars & Autopilots Online and just see where I could get with them on ordering a 2010 model 1197c SI.....
I talked to John in customer service (1-517-281-5284) and told him I was interested in purchasing a HB 1197c SI from them because I had heard good reports of their service.....
I also told him that I was adamant about purchasing the 2010 model with the ContourXD basemap preloaded into the unit...as the 2009 models had only the Unimap basemap.....
John told me that HB usually requires all older backstock to be cleared before offering the new models for sale.....(understandable in the business world)...
John said he would make a note and call me as soon as he had a 2010 model that he could sell me........tic...tic...tic...
1 hour later John called and said that he had talked to HB to find out when HB would actually be shipping out 2010 model units......
John said HB told him that the 2010 units had been in production since (I think he said) Sept '09 and some have actually shipped out to retailers that had depleted their 2009 models from stock...
John said he had located a 1197c SI unit at 1 of his California distributers...and that particular unit had a manufacturer's date that would indicate that it was, indeed, a 2010 model 1197c SI with the ContourXD basemap preloaded....
In 1 hour this guy made calls to HB and his distributers to find me the exact unit that I thought I was going to have to wait unit late January to find......
John and I made the sale and he said if the unit was not exactly what I was looking for....to call him personally to make arrangements to send it back to J & H products for exchange ....
Oh. and the price was amazing too.....$2355 plus shipping...no tax.....
I'm hoping to get it soon to actually see if it is, in fact, a 2010 model......I'll post the results as soon as I get the unit........
