We all have those overshoot moments
Or my personal favorite is to load the rod up, line up the shot perfectly. Get your timing all off and let go of the line just before the jig and it falls flat in the water in front of you.

Quoted from CrappiePappy's post above. And NEVER pass up the opportunity to shoot your jig under a pontoon that's moored at the dock. Just be careful not to hit the big motor !! And if you hang your jig up on the dock or anything at the dock ..... NEVER climb on the dock to retrieve it !! That's trespassing !! Break it off and leave it.
I end up shooting a lot of pontoon boats. I find a lot of crappie under them at times. Other times the are void of any fish. Usually the fish on the pontoons are usually close to the surface. I like to see spider webs or a good amount of moss growing on the tubes. Seems the darker ,more covered in spider webs and moss the better the fish like it. For toons at Marinas I shoot under, between, and between the tube and the floating dock. Anywhere a fish can hide and chill out. I have watched videos where the shooters were using small floats above the jig to hold them at the level. On pressured fish that are reluctant to bite that should be the ticket. You could keep the jig in front of the fish a lot longer to entice them to bite. I will work on adding that to my bag of tricks
