I would use 20 oz soda bottles. 1 liter if you must.
I’m wanting to drop some small diameter green trees /no leaves, and have them stand vertical or at least at 45 degrees. I can figure out the weight for the base but wondering about floatation to keep the tree from lying horizontal on the bottom in the mud. I’ve done lot’s of bed building just never done this particular method of floating the tops. Any suggestions for flotation is appreciated. I have a unlimited supply of small gum trees so thought about using them. Thx.

Was saying 20 oz bottle as it will hold a branch up right. Now how big of branch you’re talking might be bigger than what I’m talking about. If you have 1 gallon jugs then use them.
I like to use stuff that won't lie flat on the bottom . Not sure a small bottle will be enough lift . Too big and it will take much more weight to sink . I like to fix it to a block or in bucket of concrete with cross rods to keep upright

I have been using sandbags and filling them with rocks for weight. Use large zip ties and attach the brush then zip tie a gallon milk jug toward the top of the brush. So far seems to work well and is very easy and quick to do. Keep all the supplies in my boat so I can sink a pile when I find a new spot.

Here is some Christmas trees I put out last year and I have them standing up vertical. I used a concrete block on the bottom and gallon and half gallon milk jugs on top to keep them standing up on the gallon jugs I filled them about half full of water and tied them to the tops maybe a foot down with some 60lb mono worked like a charm for me I put out about 80 like this.

It would be cool if someone could post a diagram of how to do this.
Also, what is the lifespan of a top put together in this manner?
How well does it work, can you catch one crappie per top or several? If I had 80 and caught 1 per top, that would be plenty, lol.
