I wouldn't bother with the feet but I don't see why it wouldn't work either.
so I was wondering, do you think crappie would use structure if it looked like a table.see diagram below.
I can get my hands on some sheets of fiberglass and was thinking of attaching feet to it so that it would stand 4-5 feet off the bottom floor. this would alow shade for the fish to get under. I would think it would make great ambush zone. do you think this idea would work. I might attach some bamboo laying down on the tops of it also.

Actually the fact that fish can get UNDER it makes it an IDEAL attractor ! When we sank 3 wooden pallets we placed 2 14" cement blocks standing upright wired to the middle of the pallet`s each side and had cedar and apple limbs pushed vertically thru the slats and tied on. Unwieldy as these beasts were to carefully load and then sink, they are STILL 1 of my favorite spots after 5 yrs and have produced EVERYTHING that swims in CJ...

I think you need to draw more fish underneath that little structure to make it more realistic. I like it.

I wonder if large predator fish such as catfish & musky would take over the bed. Probably would depend on how big an area the bed covered. I have a lot of excitement on a few of my beds (one's a pallet bed) once the catfish finish spawning and are very hungry. Hard to slow down a 20 or 30 pounder heading for the brush with a crappie rod, but makes for some excitement. Yet to land a musky, they straighten the hook or break the line.
It`s possible...
I agree, some big limbs or stakes would sweeten it up quite a bit. Doesn't have to be real thick underneath. I would think I would use some big hardwood branches w/PVC added in to make this honeyhole last a long, long time. Now if you can find a place to put it where not everyone finds it and makes it their honeyhole, you are in business.
If I have a really good spot, I try to stay off of it if others are around and fish it when either early or late in the day when few people can pinpoint the spot. If others find it and start wearing it out, then it's a matter of getting there first. Would love to see a pic of it when you get it built.
I don't care for that design. I like pallet or driven stake beds. I want to be able to put a jig right in their face.

Last year I was getting re-certified from SCUBA diving, and I was at a local pond. They had a metal platform suspending about 20' down in 30' of water. The platform was about 12x12' and had little rivits in it. The platform was used for training so we could stand on it and practice drills etc. I went along side of the platform and then below it. I couldn't believe my eyes.... a school of about 30 slabs were hovering right underneath the platform. I was swimming within 15' of the crappie before the entire school would move. I wish I had my camera.
That being said, I do think it's a great idea, but I'd look to have 6-8' legs so you would be able to drop your line down the side of the 'table'. May be a bit difficult to construct on the boat to drop, but would definitely work. Maybe you can use PVC as the legs and easily attach them on the boat right before your drop.
Build it and they will come.
